This is a live performance of Shostakovich's Dance #1, performed by the Northern Arizona University Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Daniel Schmidt. I am uploading this because I wanted to provide a musical example of an abstract concept to another youtuber... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCcvXG... The idea of anticipating the beat and playing on the front end of it. If you listen to the person playing tambourine... I mean REALLY listen, you will hear that he is early ALL THE TIME! But that is exactly what he is supposed to be doing, in this performance that is what everyone is doing. If we don't stay on the front end, it will slow down. So, yeah... when playing fast, stay on the front end of the beat... when you do this it sorta feels like leaning forward so far that you have to move your feet to keep from falling over - but musically. Ok. That said. I do make an appearance in this recording. I play one note, and only one note, and yes, that is me.
